WALTHAM, Mass. - January 1, 2020 - Kurt Thompson, Templeton resident and broker with Keller Williams Realty - North Central in Leominster, was installed on December 17, 2019 as president of the 25,000-member Massachusetts Association of Realtors® (MAR) for 2020. The event took place at The Devens Common Center in Devens, Mass., and included the installation of the MAR Board of Directors and Executive Committee. Thompson’s term officially begins on January 1, 2020.
As president, Thompson will direct the internal and external activities of the Association; preside at all meetings of the MAR Board of Directors and Executive Committee; represent the Association at important meetings and business functions; and act as the official spokesperson for the Association on issues related to the real estate industry and local housing market. In addition, he will represent MAR and its members on the National Association of Realtors® (NAR) Board of Directors and the New England Realtors® Committee this year. In his role, he serves as an ex-officio member of all state association committees and work groups.
Prior to his election, Thompson served as the 2019 MAR President-Elect, and the 2018 MAR Treasurer. He has also served as the 2017 MAR Professional Development Vice President, the MAR Legal Affairs/Member Benefits focus area Vice President in 2015 and 2016, the Professional Development focus area Vice President in 2014, and the Communications/Technology focus area Vice President in 2013.
Thompson was the 2016 State Chair Northeast Region of the Council of Residential Specialists (CRS). A member of the MAR Board of Directors since 2010, Thompson has been involved with numerous MAR committees and task forces over the years. He was the chairperson of the Finance Committee and a member of the Strategic Planning, Professional Standards and Investment Committees in 2018. In 2012, he was named the MAR Realtor® of the Year and in 2014, Thompson was the CRS of the Year, Massachusetts Chapter CRS.
On the local level, Thompson was the 2011 President of the North Central Massachusetts Association of Realtors® (NCMAR). He served as the Association’s Treasurer from 2007 to 2009, and again in 2012 and served on the NCMAR Board of Directors from 2007 to 2012.
At the national level, Thompson is a member of the National Association of Realtors® Board of Directors and in 2019 was the Chair the Regulatory Issues Forum. He has previously served as a member of the Strategic Thinking Advisory Committee and the Local Leadership Idea Exchange Council in 2017. He also served as chair of the Small Boards Forum that year.
A Realtor® since 1997, Kurt has earned his Certified Buyer Representative (CBR), Certified Residential Specialist (CRS), Loss Mitigation Certification (LMC) designations.
