WALTHAM, Mass. – September 9, 2019 – The Massachusetts Association of Realtors® (MAR) recently announced that Susan Plimpton-Wallo, a Realtor® with Point B Realty in Edgartown, was named the 2019 MAR Good Neighbor Award winner for her work on behalf of The Red Stocking Fund. The Good Neighbor Award recognizes Realtors® for their community activism. The award was presented at MAR’s Professional Awards Reception, which was held in September at the MGM Springfield, in Springfield, Mass.
Susie has been involved with The Red Stocking Fund for many years. She started volunteering in 1988, when her daughter was four because she wanted her to understand the true meaning of Christmas. She and her daughter “shopped” for clothing each December for years. In 2011, after a hiatus, Susie became treasurer. In 2014 she became co-chair. The Red Stocking Fund began in 1938 when a local resident knitted six red stockings and filled them with “something to eat, something to wear and something to play with.” Susie and other volunteers provide warm winter clothing, a book or two, some are supplies, food gift cards, and toys (with the generosity of the Vineyard community both near and far) to over 300 island children each year. The charter for The Red Stocking Fund does not allow for the purchase of toys, hence all toys are donated.
Her responsibilities, along with her co-chair, Sandy Joyce, encompass just about everything from reviewing, approving, and processing all applications, creating lists of items that need to be purchased by volunteers, distributing lists to volunteers, overseeing the volunteers who do additional purchasing, organizing gifts once received, overseeing the sorting and wrapping process among many other small details along the way. She is well known among her office and in the Realtor® community for her selfless personality.
“Susan Plimpton-Wallo is a Realtor® who has made a long and lasting commitment to improving her community by contributing her time, money, and expertise to The Red Stocking Fund,” said 2019 MAR President Anne Meczywor, broker/associate at Roberts & Associates Realty Inc. In Lenox. “She makes a real difference. We are very pleased to honor her dedication and her contributions to her community.”
