WALTHAM, Mass. – January 1, 2013 – Deborah Heffernan, broker/co-owner of Avenue 3 Real Estate, LLC in Cambridge, has been appointed vice president of government affairs for the Massachusetts Association of REALTORS® (MAR) in 2013.
As vice president for government affairs, Heffernan is responsible for coordinating the initiatives of the MAR Business Plan relative to public policy issues, grass-roots organizational efforts, and legislative and political action activities of the Association. In addition, she will act as a liaison between leadership and all work groups formed under the MAR government affairs umbrella. She automatically becomes a member of the MAR Executive Committee and Board of Directors as a result of his appointment as a focus area vice president.
A long-time member of the MAR Board of Directors, Heffernan was the Vice-Chair of the Government Affairs Committee in 2012.
On the local level, Heffernan was President of the Greater Boston Association of REALTORS® in 2011. This past year she served on the Executive Committee and was Chair of the Nominating Committee. She was also a member of the the Communications and Grievance Committees.
At the national level, Heffernan is a member of the National Association of REALTORS® Board of Directors and a member of the State and Local Issues Committee.
A REALTOR® since 1984, Heffernan has earned her Loss Mitigation Certification (LMC).
