REALTORS®: Are You Referring Your Clients to the Best Insurance Company?

by User Not Found | Mar 04, 2015

Finding the perfect home is a dream come true for most people, but it doesn’t end there. When it comes to buying a home, finding home insurance that best fits one’s needs is extremely important but often overlooked. As a real estate agent, you’ve worked with your client enough to understand what they need, so you probably won’t be surprised when they ask you for guidance on choosing an insurance agency or agent. In order to build lasting value with your client, you want to recommend an insurance agent that you can trust to get the job done the right way every time.

Here are some ways to guide your client in the right direction when it comes to choosing home insurance:

Do Your Research.

This doesn’t mean just surfing the web for the top home insurance companies – this means asking around and talking to people you trust for referrals. Has the company been recognized for any achievements or great service? Does the company give off a positive image and have good reviews? How many insurance company options does the particular agent have access to?  You’ll need a lot of different and reliable sources to make an educated referral to your client.

Trust Your Gut.

If you’re thinking about referring an agent or company to your client and it just doesn’t seem right, don’t do it. Even if the said company or agent has star reviews but something seems off if you happen to meet them in person, it’s best to steer clear. Your human instincts about people are usually right so trust them and trust yourself.

It’s Not Just in the Name.

Just because you see a company’s name plastered everywhere doesn’t mean that they are the best in the game, it may just mean they spend the most in marketing dollars. Don’t shy away from checking out the independent smaller companies that may offer many different options. Every insurance company has a niche they cater to, every client has a unique set of insurable needs.  Finding the right fit should be the insurance agent’s job.  Just because a company isn’t spending billions on making themselves a household name doesn’t mean that they won’t have something great to offer your client.

Find the Expert.

Finding an agent or company that is extremely knowledgeable in the field is key to your referral. It’s extremely important to find an expert for your client, especially if the client is a first time homeowner. An expert can explain every step of the process to your client and keep them informed throughout the process.

If you’ve found the perfect home for your client, you can certainly help them find the perfect insurance. Partner with independent experts you can trust and rely on their process to add value to yours.
