Massachusetts Real Estate Educator of the Year
Established in 2003, the Massachusetts Real Estate Educator of the Year award recognizes REALTORS® for their voluntary contributions and participation in activities that promote the professional development and career advancement of fellow real estate practitioners.  

The award is intended to be presented annually to a deserving MAR member who promotes professionalism in the real estate industry through personal involvement in numerous professional development activities.  Persons to consider for the award may include instructors for continuing education, pre-licensing and professional development courses; trainers for local real estate brokerages; chairpersons or members of the local REALTORS® association’s education committee; and members who have been active in providing professional development and career growth opportunities for agents and brokers or those who speak to community groups or at high school or college careers days to increase public awareness about real estate as a full-time profession.
 
Nomination Process & Deadline

The nomination process for the Real Estate Educator of the Year Award is open any MAR member, affiliate member, or local REALTORS® association staff or committee.  No individual or committee may submit more than one candidate for the award each year however.  Nominations must be submitted in writing using the association's Educator of the Year Award Nomination Form, and must be received by July 15th to qualify for the current year's award presentation.  Entries should be submitted to: MAR, 1400 Main Street, Waltham, MA, 02451.

Applications may be accompanied by additional literature or materials that demonstrate the nominee’s abilities and experience as an educator, however applications that are supported by such documents will not be weighted more heavily than those that do not.
 
Award Selection & Presentation

The recipient of the Massachusetts Real Estate Educator of the Year award is chosen by MAR Educator of the Year Award Selection Committee.  The criteria for selecting the state Real Estate Educator of the Year includes one’s role as a professional development trainer and instructor for industry-related courses; personal involvement in the development of real estate curricula and/or course materials; and the publication of originally authored works, such as a book or bylined article in an industry trade journal or newsletter.  Professional designations or honors that demonstrate the quality and commitment of an individual to the role of educator also may be considered.   

The award recipients receives a commemorative trophy which is presented each year at the MAR Professional Awards Banquet, typically held in the fall.

2013
Linda Kody, CBR, LMC, EHO, North Andover
A state-certified continuing education instructor and instructor for the MAR Loss Mitigation Certification (LMC) course since its inception in 2008.  She has taught for the Northeast Association of REALTORS® and instructs at the annual MAR Conference & Tradeshow. In addition to teaching LMC certification, she teaches Expanding Housing Opportunity, Code of Ethics for Professional Standards panel members, Quadrennial training of the Code of Ethics, New Member Orientation and Designated REALTOR® Orientation. Kody regularly appears on various expert panels and volunteers with the Merrimack Valley Housing Partnership and Lawrence Community Works. She is frequently quoted in Banker & Tradesman as an industry expert and has written articles for Bay State REALTOR® Magazine.

2012
Karen Jaworski, ABR, CRS, CBR, GRI, LTG, LMC, Yarmoutport
A state-certified education instructor in Massachusetts who writes, designs and teaches real estate courses for the Cape Cod & Islands Association of REALTORS®. She has taught new REALTOR® orientation, Real Estate Steps of Success for new agents, NAR Code of Ethics, and is the Professional Standards Administrator for THE CAPE COD ASSOCIATION. She also teaches salesperson and broker pre-licensing courses and many Massachusetts continuing education courses at the Mid-Cape Real Estate School.

2011
Robert Nahigian, FRICS, SIOR, CRE, Newton
A state-certified continuing education instructor in Massachusetts who writes, designs and teaches real estate courses and programs for state and local REALTOR® associations across the country. Courses he has written for the GRI curriculum include: Overview to Industrial Real Estate; Primer for Commercial Real Estate; International Real Estate; and Market and Negotiating Commercial Real Estate. Nahigian has also developed specific commercial real estate courses for the Massachusetts Licensing Commission’s Education Subcommittee.

2010
Jeffrey D. Chute, ABR, CBR, GREEN, GRI, SRES
Jeffrey Chute is a state-certified continuing education instructor in Massachusetts who designs, writes and teaches real estate course for the Plymouth & South Shore Association of REALTORS® (PASS), MAR and several local associations across the state.  Courses he has written include GRI 202 module “Green Awareness in Housing” and recently created a three-hour course on “Marketing to Seniors” under contract to a large real estate office in Maine.  Chute created and presented the “Green Webinar” for MAR’s monthly Webinar Wednesday series and he is also a REBAC certified instructor who has taught NAR’s GREEN Designation course.  Currently Chute also teaches the 2-hour Code of Ethics portion of the PASS Orientation.
