June is National Homeownership Month!

June 11, 2021

We believe that every person deserves the opportunity to become a homeowner, and this month, we celebrate that American Dream. Whether you’re looking to buy, sell or maintain your home, homeownership is important to so many Americans. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, in 2015-2019 the owner-occupied housing rate in Massachusetts was 62.4%.

Massachusetts is committed to expanding the affordability of homeownership. Just this January, Governor Charlie Baker signed the Housing Choice Law that updates zoning laws to boost housing production. To learn more about the opportunities this law provides, check out our guide here. MAR is also pursuing state legislation to help first-time homebuyers in Massachusetts save toward a home purchase, which you can read more about here.

As part of National Homeownership Month, NAR and MAR are encouraging all REALTORS® to celebrate with the American Property Owners Alliance by joining the conversation on social media. The American Property Owners Alliance has put together a digital toolkit to help you, your clients, and other #OwnersandNeighbors to amplify your voices throughout the month of June.

To learn more about National Homeownership Month, you can read the Presidential Proclamation and for more information about programs and policies, housing counseling information, training, and events visit hud.gov

Let’s celebrate past, present, and future homeowners this month and keep the conversation about homeownership going!
