Federal Eviction Moratorium Extension

June 25, 2021

- By The MAR Legal Team

On June 24, the CDC announced it is extending the eviction moratorium through July 31, from its previous expiration date of June 30. The CDC order states that it intends this to be the final extension of the eviction moratorium. On the same day, the White House released a fact sheet on “Initiatives to Promote Housing Stability by Supporting Vulnerable Tenants and Preventing Foreclosures.” These initiatives are intended to encourage better disbursement of Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) funds, coordination across agencies and levels of governments to communicate to vulnerable tenants and housing providers the aid available to them, and encouraging state and local courts to adopt “anti-eviction diversion practices” to help housing providers and tenants reach agreements and access rental assistance to keep people in their homes while making housing providers whole.
