Cooking Up Some Ideas for the New Year

December 11, 2019

With Thanksgiving in the rearview mirror and 2019 coming to a close, you still have time to learn (or reacquaint yourself) with some tips you can use to spice up your new year.

Don’t let connections with past clients fall to the wayside.

If you are loyal to your clients, chances are they will be loyal to you. Small thoughtful gestures such as sending birthday and holiday cards to them can go a long way. Don’t be afraid to venture out to sending market updates, open house notifications, just-listed and just-sold cards, etc. Making sure you stay top of mind will remind clients to reach out to you if and when they need a REALTOR® again or when they have a friend that does.

Tighten up your online presence.

When you are Googled by a potential client, that search will greatly influence how they see you.  Think of a time you Googled the menu to a new restaurant you were trying. How the website looked and how the menu was displayed likely influenced your opinion about the restaurant before even going there. You may need to pay a developer, but building a website that ranks high in search results can pay dividends. Make sure your website is up-to-date and clean at all times. With internet at our fingertips, it’s important to present yourself online just as professionally as you would meeting a client for the first time in person.

Build your Brand.

Be hungry for establishing your brand. You are a REALTOR®, you are your own brand. It’s important to establish what that means and what that looks like to you. Your brand should be very unique to who you are as a person. Is there a property type that is your niche?  What are your hobbies and interests and who do they resonate with most? Once you figure out what your brand is, start incorporating it into your marketing. You want people to start to know what to expect from your messaging and your style.

Leverage Technology.

Technology can help free up a lot of time for you to meet with clients and show more homes. Maximize the power of your CRM. Set up email automation for your monthly newsletter. There are small steps you can take here and there to help take a big load off your plate. You very well might have already implemented a lot of this technology into your business. For those of you who are interested but haven’t quite incorporated as much of the technology approach as you want, now is the time. After all, there’s a YouTube tutorial for everything these days.

Don’t Stop Learning

No matter how good the chef, there’s always a new dish to learn. It’s never possible to know everything about the industry that you’re in. Try making it a priority to continue learning about real estate no matter where you are in your career. Follow industry blogs, join social networking groups, attend conferences and events, listen to podcasts, read more. You can never know too much about something.
