Training Advocacy Leaders

MAR held two important trainings in the first quarter:

REALTOR® Party Training

In January, we invited local leaders to MAR HQ to learn more about REALTOR® Party and its many offerings. Attendees heard from Kristy Hairston, learned more about tenets of REALTOR® Party and its many offerings through interactive activities, and got access to a panel of top housing advocates for an insiders preview of the new legislative session.

State Political Coordinator Training

In March, we held a training for State Political Coordinators. These are members who work closely with their local state legislators. Through presentations and role playing SPCs learned about effective advocacy techniques and resources. They also benefitted from a keynote panel where two legislators and their SPCs talked about their experiences with the program and advised on best practices for communication and relationship building.

Supporting home energy efficiency – In late February, MAR provided comments to the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources supporting Home Energy Performance-Based, Whole House Rebates

(“HOMES” Section 50121) and the High-Efficiency Electric Home Rebate Program (“HEEHR” Section 50122) included in the federal Inflation Reduction Act. Both can provide homeowners with incredible opportunities to increase their energy efficiency and reduce costs. MAR’s comments also include two recommendations:

  • Maximize consumer choice in rebate programs to assure that homeowners aren’t forced into one-size fits all solutions that don’t fit their homes well.
  • Continue supporting consumer education to assure the success of these programs.
