MAR recently partnered with Suffolk Law to launch a Fair Housing consumer awareness campaign targeting renters and landlords with information to educate them on their rights, Section 8 housing, workforce housing, and affordability. The microsite is broken down into categories with information for renters and landlords respectively and is translated in Spanish, Portuguese and several other languages. It also directs REALTORS® to a fair housing page on marealtor.com to stay on top of fair housing issues related to the industry.
Massachusetts renters can learn about their rights and what action they can take if they feel they have been discriminated against when looking for housing. Information about vouchers, disabilities, questions about criminal records among other things can all be found here.
Massachusetts landlords can learn about their responsibilities and ensure they are complying with local, state, and national laws. Information about inspections, asking for credit and background checks and references, among other things, can be found here.
And lastly, there is a section for REALTORS® who are the stewards of property rights efforts. REALTORS® are expected to support fair housing protections for residents across the state. The Fair Housing page on marrealtor.com is a resource to help REALTORS® comply with the laws and stay on top of fair housing issues.
No matter if you are a renter, a landlord, or a real estate professional, the Massachusetts Association of REALTORS® is leading the fight for Fair Housing in the Commonwealth.
