Destination Boston

by Rita Coffey | Aug 31, 2018
I’m very excited for all Realtors® in Massachusetts and New England for that matter. Why am I excited? I’m excited because the National Association of Realtors®' Conference & Expo is coming to Boston this November. This is a big deal and it’s a big deal for a number of reasons. First off, the last time the conference was here in Boston was in 1929. That’s 89 years ago.

For comparison, that’s three years longer than we had to wait between Red Sox championships (1918-2004). Secondly, it’s the biggest industry conference there is, and it will be in our capital city! Whether you drive into Boston for the day or stay for the entire conference, you’ll get the opportunity to be with over 20,000 Realtors® from around the country and the world who will be coming in for the event. It’s truly an incredible feeling to be surrounded by so many of our fellow Realtors®. There’s a spirit and vibrancy in the air that’s too hard to describe with words. You really do need to experience it for yourself. And now you have your chance to do that.

I remember the first time I went to the NAR Conference & Expo. It was amazing. I had attended many franchise conventions and they were great, but the level and quality of the NAR convention was special.
I was able to meet and network with more Realtors® from across the country, and I was able to customize exactly what I needed through numerous education classes. Finally, the Trade Show was unbelievable.

In addition to the educational and networking opportunities available at this conference, there are two other aspects I wanted to talk to you about. First, the annual conference is one of the two meetings where the governance of the Association takes place. This includes committee meetings and the Board of Directors meeting. While some meetings are restricted to committee members only, most are open to all Realtors®. If you were ever interested in serving on a NAR committee, the conference is a good opportunity to see what it’s all about.

I would also recommend that you attend NAR 360, which will take place on Thursday, November 1 at 4:00 pm. This is one of my favorite events of the entire program. This is where you hear from NAR leadership about how the Association is advocating for our industry and profession and what they are doing to make us more successful as Realtors®.

The second aspect of this year’s conference that I wanted to talk to you about is the Realtors® Relief Run. This is a 5K race/walk around Boston that starts and ends at Boston Common. More importantly, this race benefits not only the Realtors® Relief Foundation, but also the New England Center for Homeless Veterans, St. Francis House, and Friend's of Boston's Homeless.

The race/walk will take place on Saturday, November 3 at 8:00 a.m. Go to www.ReliefRun.realtor. to register. And if you want to join a team, I invite you to join me on Team Coffey! We’d love to have you and look forward to seeing you in Boston in November!
