Message from the Chair

MCIC Chairman H. Sandy Brown

The MAR Commercial Investment Council, provides educational and networking opportunities, to real estate practitioners from Massachusetts, who transact in commercial real estate. Participants include full time commercial practitioners, as well as those who handle just the occasional commercial property. It is our mission to have the MCIC become a resource for members of the commercial real estate community. To that end, we only have three Goals for this year. These goals are intended to make our council more knowledgeable, more networkable and more successful.

Our first goal is to more thoroughly integrate MCIC with other Commercial organizations in New England. It is time that our organization reaches out to learn from our CCIM, SIOR, CRE and IREM associates and more energetically teach true Commercial real estate methods to our members. We know there are some licensed agents out in the field today working to transact Commercial Real Estate sales and leases without the specialized skills and knowledge needed to properly engage in a Commercial Real Estate transaction. We must work to improve this state of affairs for the agents, for the Realtor® association, and most importantly, for the clients.

Our second goal is membership development. Participation in our council may be cost-free, but the benefits that a member receives are very valuable. Our website is a venerable smorgasbord of information to our members, including links to just about every website that a commercial practitioner could ever need. Past Chairman Rob Nahigian and Advisory Council member Carolyn Chodate are working on a new Commercial Property Exchange (CPE) in conjunction with MLS that would not require the sharing of commissions to participate.

And our final goal is for the expansion of Commercial Real Estate skills and knowledge. We will be spearheading a push to develop the skills and knowledge of our members and others who seek commercial real estate knowledge by providing Panel discussions of industry experts in all fields of commercial practice, as well as very high quality CE courses totally geared to improving your commercial real estate skill sets.

Membership in the MCIC is complimentary for members of the REALTOR® organization and any National Association of Realtors® institute affiliate organization (CCIM, SIOR, CRE, NAIOP).
