President's Message

WELCOME to the Massachusetts Women’s Council of Realtors web site!

What is the Women’s Council of Realtors?

2009 MA WCR President Judy Patterson

Founded in 1924 with 37 members the Women’s Council of Realtors (WCR) has grown to over 18,000 members nationally. WCR publishes a magazine called Connections as well as an annual Referral Roster. With more than 290 Chapters WCR is the 12th largest Women’s professional organization in the United States. Did you know that our members earn more than double the income of the average Realtor ?

My story is not unlike that of the many members who have come before me. I have been involved since I joined Re/Max 8 years ago. A co-worker of mine said to me one day “ come to a WCR meeting with me, you’ll like it’ She was right. Now some 8 years later I come to you as the State Chapter President, serving on my local board as well as the state board for most of those years.

My involvement with WCR has had a positive impact on my real estate career, most importantly, as a business resource center. The contacts, referrals, education and the friendships are individually small things, but combined have had a dramatic impact on my real estate career. Additionally the professional and personal friendships I have formed have enriched my life far beyond the work environment.

As your State President I would first like to personally congratulate each and everyone of us that survived 2008. We’ve come through the past year with much needed knowledge on the constant changing market. For example, we all now know how to negotiate a Short Sale, patiently wait 3 to 6 months for a commission check and a how to dress to show a Foreclosed Property (hard hat, heavy coat, gloves, scarf, flashlight, batteries, screwdriver and hip boots – flat and high-heeled, of course!).

This past year has certainly prepared us for whatever 2009 can send our way. While the new year is sure to still be a challenge, here’s wishing it will be more profitable for all.

The focus this year at WCR for our members and affiliates will be to facilitate those relationships that we have made through our meetings, to continually add more value to each and every time we meet. If you can’t make an event in your local area, as a member you can attend any event, anywhere. Feel free to contact myself or any other board member for information on how to join this organization of amazing individuals.

As we move forward to meet the unique challenges of today’s market remember that as individuals we can do many things but as Members of Women’s Council of Realtors there is nothing we can’t accomplish.
