MAR Good Neighbor Award

In 2004, the Massachusetts Association of REALTORS® (MAR) established the Good Neighbor Awards program to recognize real estate professionals for their community activism.  The award is to be presented annually to REALTORS® who demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to community service through volunteerism and civic and charitable contributions that improve the lives of local residents and make their community a better place to live.

Entrants for the award may engage in a broad range of eligible activities that might include, but may not be limited to, volunteer work involving affordable housing issues, educational programs, youth-related activities, or any other civic or charitable activity that improves the lives of local residents or the community at-large.

Entry Process & Deadline

The nomination process for the Good Neighbor Award is open to any MAR member, affiliate member, or local REALTORS® association staff or committee, with no limit as to the number of entrants one may enter for the award each year.  Applications must be received by May 1st to qualify for the current year's award presentation.  Entries should be submitted to: MAR Communications Department, 256 Second Avenue, Waltham, MA.  02451.

Applications may be accompanied by additional literature or materials that demonstrate the charitable and/or civic contributions the nominee has made within the community beyond the most recent two years.  Please note, however, that entry forms supported by other documents will not be weighted more heavily than those that do not.

Award Selection & Presentation

Selection of Good Neighbor Award recipients is made by a special sub-committee of the MAR Communications & Public Relations Committee.  Each year, up to three Bay State REALTORS® will be honored with the MAR Good Neighbor Award, and each recipient receives a commemorative trophy and a $1,500 grant from the Massachusetts Association of REALTORS® in the name of their designated charity.  Presentations are made annually at the MAR REALTOR® of the Year & Professional Awards Banquet, typically held in the fall.   The state winner(s) is automatically entered into NAR's REALTOR® Magazine's National Good Neighbor Award competition.

National Good Neighbor Awards

The MAR Good Neighbor Awards program is modeled after a similar member recognition program conducted by NAR's REALTOR® Magazine and utilizes the same entry form.  MAR will forward its winning applications to the national program as well.  Further information, including the deadlines for submitting entries at the national level may be obtained online at realtor.org.

Notably, since inception of the national program in 2000, two Bay State REALTORS® have named Good Neighbor Award winners by REALTOR® Magazine.   They are: Anne Marie Torcivia, of RE/MAX Real Estate Specialists in Malden and Thomas J. Maloney, of Liberty Pierre Joseph Realty in Pittsfield.
