Harris Team
Lenny did a great job as President Elect, Chairing Membership and working with Barbara on Education Committee. He was also Budget Committee Chair. He & Barbara attended the New Hampshire State Convention to encourage CRS National members to belong to our MA Chapter. CRS's in New Hampshire, along with those in Rhode Island and Vermont, are now part of our Massachusetts Charter by a decision of NAR since they do not have a State Chapter. The Harris' won the award as a Team because they both worked so diligently together on their respective committees, sharing the workload. They have been a fantastic team for 34 years of marriage!
Marilyn Messenger
Awarding a President's Award is a tradition that our Massachusetts CRS Chapter initiated many years ago when Betty Cusker was President. We recognize an individual who has been a very active Committee Chairperson, one who is innovative, creative, diligent, and forward thinking, and a pleasure to work with. Thanks to this type of Chairperson in 2009, we brought our print newsletter into the 21st Century by now "going green" with an on-line newsletter. We proudly named Marilyn Messenger, Chairperson of Communications & Public Relations, (whose expertise makes us "green with envy" ) the well deserved recipient of the President's Award! Marilyn was delightfully surprised and we were thrilled for her.
Laura Shifrin
The Distinguished Service Award is a new recognition award for our chapter in 2009. Initiated to recognize a long- term, outstanding CRS member, Laura Shifrin was our choice as a well deserved model CRS. The Board of Directed voted to call it the "Laura Shifrin Distinguished Service Award" henceforth. Our criteria were to recognize an individual who has served our CRS Chapter and CRS National tirelessly in many capacities over a number of years. Laurie, a Past CRS President served as President two years in a row, 2006 & 2007, and served in 2008 and 2009 on the membership committee in addition to her many years on the CRS board prior to that. Her efforts brought many new members into our chapter and also re-instated many past members as well as encouraged National Members in our state to join our State Chapter. On the CRS National level she was appointed as 2009 as Regional Vice President to the states of Montana, Idaho and Colorado.

The
Council of Residential Specialists (CRS) presented the Massachusetts CRS Chapter with its Chapter of the Year Award for medium chapters at ceremonies held on November 11, 2006 in New Orleans. The Chapter of the Year Award is given annually to three CRS chapters (small, medium and large) for their outstanding achievement in the effort to advance the mission and further the goals and objectives of CRS at the chapter level.

The leadership of the Massachusetts Chapter, including 2006 President Laura Shifrin, was recognized for taking the chapter to a new level and offering more benefits to local members over the past two years. "Shifrin is without a doubt one of the hardest-working chapter presidents I have ever had the pleasure of working with," says Rachel Tristano, director of chapter and regional programs for CRS. "She has proven that with strong leadership, a chapter can do anything it sets out to do."
In addition to the formal presentation of the award at the National meeting in New Orleans, CRS Regional Vice President for New England, Julie Tetsworth, traveled to Massachusetts to present the award at the 2007 CRS Regional Installation of Officers held on November 30th in Waltham.
The Massachusetts CRS Chapter is one of 52 chapters that provide educational opportunities for REALTORS®, promote the Council and the Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) designation, assist the Council in achieving its purposes and objectives, plan community service projects and provide a forum for the exchange of information. The Massachusetts CRS Chapter has nearly 500 members and was established in 1982.
