From Lenny Harris
As we begin 2010, there is nothing more constant in our lives and in our work than change. And the speed at which our world is changing is accelerating, which can be both exciting and overwhelming. My name is Lenny Harris, and I am your new Massachusetts CRS Chapter President.
I am very excited to be at the helm of one of the top chapters in the country and I embrace the opportunity of being in the real estate industry at a time of such rapid change and shifts in paradigms. I also believe that in order to move into the future we must stay in touch with our past and remember that our business is best done face to face.
It is this integration of the past and the future that will allow us, both as individuals and as a chapter, to remain successful. We invite you—no, actually, we challenge you—to help the Massachusetts Chapter make all of us better at what we do.
CRS is not only about the education, CRS is not only about networking and referrals, and CRS has never just been about putting three letters at the end of our real estate signature. The value of the CRS designation is in surrounding ourselves with the best and the brightest in our business. And, make no mistake, the statistics clearly show that we are, indeed, the leaders in our industry.
The income for the average CRS designee is four times that of the average REALTOR® who sells residential real estate. There are over 1.2 million REALTORS® in the country today and fewer than 3.5% hold the prestigious CRS designation, the symbol of excellence in residential sales. In these times of rapid change and a down economy, why not cash in on this wealth of knowledge and expertise and become more involved?
CRS designees are among the most caring and sharing people in our industry. If you make no attempt to leverage your designation, if you stash your CRS pin in the back of a drawer, if you never take advantage of opportunities to attend courses or chapter or national events, if you aren’t networking with members in person or online, then you aren’t taking full advantage of the designation’s power to help you succeed.
Become involved with your fellow CRS designees and chapter members. Attend our meetings, networking events, and programs. Volunteer for a committee. Help us reach out to and stay connected with current and prospective members on the Cape and in the Western and Northeastern reaches of Massachusetts as well as with those in New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Take a class.
Speaking of taking chapter-sponsored courses, did you know that Massachusetts Chapter designees can take our 2-day CRS courses at half price, space permitting? That’s typically a savings of $165 to $190 or more per class! Plus, we offer substantial discounts to chapter members and member-designees on our other programs, as well.
I would love to hear from each of you with any suggestions you might have about how our chapter could better provide value, to you, the member. And please feel free to think way outside the box. This is an organization that is built on serving the needs of ALL our members. You, like me, made the decision at one time to earn and maintain your CRS designation, and I ask you now to make the decision to make your designation as value-packed as possible.
I look forward in 2010 to renewing old friendships as well as making new ones. And I especially hope to hear from, and meet with, each and every one of you!
Lenny Harris
2010 CRS President
