On the second day of the 2008 MAR Conference and Tradeshow, Jed Smith, the Managing Director for Quantitative Research at the National Association of REALTORS®, gave a comprehensive update on the September 2008 financial crisis and how it could affect the housing market.

Jed Smith is Managing Director, Quantitative Research, for the National Association of Realtors. He has been following the housing and financial markets for approximately 20 years. Working for Washington Gas he managed a marketing and research operation focused on estimating trends in the single family and multi-family housing markets and on designing programs and approaches for business development. Work with General Electric’s Power Systems Business involved the analysis of the economy and its impact on housing and commercial sector opportunities. He also teaches economics and marketing on an adjunct basis at the MBA level and has worked as a consultant addressing valuation and strategic planning issues. His economics degrees include a Ph.D. in economics from Purdue and an A.B. from Hamilton College.
