No. Regardless of how long your license as an agent has been expired, you can make it current and “active” by paying the appropriate fee and doing 12 hours of continuing education offered by one of the Board approved providers. The 12 hours are not multiplied by the number of two year license terms since your license expired. Remember, you need a current “active” license to work. If you want to renew your license without doing continuing education, the Board must, by law, renew your license as “inactive,” prohibiting you from working as a real estate agent, with only one exception—you can earn referral fees for the referrals that you make to licensed “active” real estate brokers.

 

 A. Yes, the Real Estate Board creates the subjectmatter curriculum for the 12-hour continuing education requirement under the relevant law with the assistance of its Education Sub-Committee. The Education Sub Committee’s mission is to review submissions to the continuing education curriculum consisting of two-hour subject matter area topics.

The Board’s Education Sub-Committee consists of seven members appointed by the Board for one year terms. They are educators, members of the realty profession, a Board representative, and occasionally representatives of government and the public. They review the two-hour continuing education curriculum submissions and make recommendations to the Board concerning approval or suggestions for further followup. They also make suggested revisions to the existing curriculum, given changes in the relevant licensing law, regulations, and practice in the marketplace. The final decision on the curriculum is made by the Board.

The work of the Education Sub-Committee is invaluable to ensuring relevant and high-quality offerings to the licensed real estate agents in the Commonwealth.
