How Courses Will Be Offered Q. Will continuing education be offered on the web? A. Yes. The Real Estate Board has finalized a policy for offering continuing education online.
In developing the policy, the Board was primarily concerned with requiring that approved providers offering online continuing education have security procedures to ensure that licensed agents are actually taking and completing the continuing education.
The Board’s policy will address such concerns. The Board’s policy will require that online providers follow the Board-approved continuing education curriculum, which also asks that licensees complete 12 hours of continuing education in the various modules (subject matter areas) of the continuing education curriculum. Moreover, the online providers will have to make sure that licensees who have questions concerning the material in the curriculum can pose such questions to approved instructors for the providers who will respond to those questions. They must respond to licensees’ questions within a reasonable amount of time following the presentation of such material.
The online providers will be able to offer quizzes and other diagnostic information to assist licensees with their understanding of the material, but such quizzing or diagnostic information will not prevent licensees from completing their continuing education. The purpose of such quizzing or diagnostic information is purely for the benefit of the licensees, to assist with their understanding of the curriculum.
The Board is excited about this next advance in continuing education and believes that online offerings by approved providers will offer an additional vehicle and flexibility to licensees in completing their statutorily mandated continuing education.
Clarification of Completion Q. Will I receive a certificate from my provider when I complete online continuing education? A. Yes. You will receive a Certificate of Completion of continuing education from your provider.
In essence, the Certificate of Completion will include the provider name and license number, the licensee’s name and license number, the name and identifying number of the continuing education modules completed, the beginning and completion dates for the modules, and the signature of the authorized agent for the provider.
As a licensee, you should keep the Certificates of Completion in your files should the Board request them in its routine audits of continuing education. They should not be mailed to the Board along with renewal applications. The Certificates are for licensees to keep, unless the Board specifically requests that a licensee provide a copy of such certificate to the Board. |
