Insider: Judy Patterson, President of Massachusetts WCR, Shares the Council’s Mission
5/20/2010

My involvement with Massachusetts Women’s Council of Realtors® (WCR) has had a positive impact on my real estate career. As a place to focus my attention during these trying economic times, WCR is an effective business resource center. The contacts, referrals, education, and friendships I have formed have enriched my life far beyond the work environment.

Founded in 1924 with 37 members, the WCR has grown to over 15,000 members nationally. The organization provides education, business tools, and support that meet the distinct needs of women entrepreneurs. With more that 290 Chapters, WCR is the 12th largest women’s professional organization in the United States. Our members earn more than double the income of the average Realtor®.

Partnering with the National Association of Realtors® (NAR), WCR members sit on NAR committees: Federal Housing Policy, International Operations, Professional Standards, and Public Policy to name just a few. These members help to impact vital legislation and regulation, such as the recent extension of the $8,000 federal tax credit for fi rst-time homebuyers.

We are able to meet the “Mission of WCR- a network of successful Realtors® empowering women to exercise their potential as entrepreneurs and industry leaders,” by providing an environment of collaboration and positive energy focused on  helping each other to be more successful. WCR members are established career professionals who value integrity, respect for each other, and continuous development. We are committed to excellence and bringing excellence out in each other. We believe that business success brings infl uence, credibility, and greater opportunity. Moreover, it leads to financial security, greater independence, and more quality of life choices.

We advocate involvement in the real estate industry, and in the community, believing that it helps us to grow individually at the same time as our involvement brings about positive change. Our focus in the coming year will be to facilitate the relationships we have made through our meetings in order to continually add more value to each meeting. As a member, you can attend any event anywhere.

We strive to be a career partner, a valuable resource no matter what state of development you are at currently. We help members meet their
business goals and develop their leadership potential by giving them meaningful opportunities and training. We lay aside competitive difference in favor of collaboration and camaraderie.

As we move forward to meet the unique challenges of today’s market, remember that as individuals we can do many things, but as Members of the Women’s Council of Realtors® there is nothing we can’t do!
