Isn’t it the coolest when you are connected to a celebrity? Don’t mistake me, I’m not pouring through tabloids, nor am I a fan of TMZ, but I love to be behind the scenes with the talented few. I’ve been backstage with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra because my good friend is one of the star keyboard players, and I just rubbed shoulders with one of my favorite local prize-winning authors, Erica Ferencik, author of Cracks in the Foundation (a really funny book about a REALTOR®), who just launched her new book, Repeaters.
I bet many of us can flaunt our celebrity acquaintances. Those who possess musical talent, or artistry, or the savoir-faire to gain acclaim through reality TV and politics all have personality traits that elevate them to greatness. And I find it fun to be around the energy.
I feel lucky as MAR staff at this time of year, when the great among the great REALTORS® are recognized and we have the opportunity to celebrate them. And, as I prepared the Special Award section that starts on page 15 and helped plan October’s Professional Awards Reception to celebrate their accomplishments, I found myself in awe of these special REALTORS® and their talent.
Fifteen REALTOR® members out of nearly 19,000 have earned REALTOR® of the Year recognition at their local Association. Wow! Being around these 15 greats, you can see how they gained notoriety; they are leaders who display dedication and passion. Then from this group, the state REALTOR® of the Year is chosen, which is not an easy task among so much talent, but is well deserved by the winner.
Also, an esteemed member is presented the Distinguished Service Award, which is noted on page 18. Fellow REALTORS® carefully select this member. Their talent, dedication to their craft, and exuberance draw the attention of many. They are chosen for their many years of involvement, leadership, and passion—the lifetime achievement award at the Oscars®… of sorts. Again, wow!
These award-winning REALTORS® may not be drawing crowds of millions at a concert as a musician or earning acclaim as an esteemed author, but they stand out because they went above and beyond for their organization. They possess something special that drives them to exceed expectations in their business and personal accomplishments. They are winners who are celebrated at an annual event so that all of us in attendance can congratulate and rub shoulders with them.
And I, for one, think it’s cool. |
