2010 Day on Beacon Hill Draws Over 300 REALTORS®
6/9/2010

Over 300 REALTOR® members from across the state converged on Beacon Hill, Tuesday, June 8, for the 25th Annual Margaret C. Carlson REALTOR® Day on Beacon Hill.

MAR CEO Robert Authier welcomed members to the Great Hall at the State House while staff General Counsel Steve Ryan, Esq. briefed the attendees on legislative issues.  MAR President Kevin Sears thanked members for their involvement at the event and iterated the importance of them visiting legislators and their dedication to local political involvement and to supporting MASSRPAC.  Click here to hear a recording of President Sears’ speech.

Senate President Therese Murray gave the keynote address to a packed Great Hall, noting that she hasn’t seen as robust a REALTOR® Day on Beacon Hill as was this one.   She expressed her appreciation for the historic significance of annual event which celebrates its 25th anniversary and showed admiration for past MAR President Margaret Carlson who envisioned it.

Murray shared her sensitivity to the housing market and the challenges members have faced over the last several of years.  She specifically addressed the Senate’s support of S.2191 which would regulate secondary metals dealing by developing a Second-Hand Metal Dealer Registry and Abandoned Property Registry.   REALTORS support this legislation to crack down on copper pipe theft which has plagued some neighborhoods with abadoned properties.

Upon completion of the opening program, REALTORS® convened with their local associations to visit with their Representatives and Senators.
