Chief Executive Officer

Robert N. Authier, CAE, RCE, e-PRO is executive vice president and chief executive officer of the Massachusetts Association of REALTORS®.  Authier has more than 39 years of association management experience and his resume includes more than 34 years of service to the real estate industry in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Virginia.  As MAR Chief Executive Officer, Authier oversees the effective implementation of all association activities and services in accordance with the MAR business plan, in affiliation with the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) and MAR’s 16 local associations of REALTORS®. He also helps plan the association’s strategic direction and related policies; acts as MAR spokesperson; coordinates and supervises the activities of MAR’s professional staff, and serves on MAR’s Executive Committee and New England Realtors® Committee. 
 
Authier was NAR’s 2008 recipient of the prestigious William R. Magel Award of Excellence.  A Certified Association Executive (CAE), who also has earned the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) REALTOR® Certified Executive (RCE) designation, Authier serves on the NAR Board of Directors, Housing Oppurtinity Committee and Association Executives Recommendations and Recognition Subcommittee. He is past member of the NAR Executive Committee, Strategic Planning, Finance, and Association Executives Committees and was a member of the NAR Leadership Team in 2007.  He also is past chairman of the NAR Association Executives Committee (AEC) Forum and the AEC’s RCE Certification Board.   
 
Authier began his career in the REALTOR® organization in 1977 as public affairs director of the Massachusetts Association of REALTORS®, a position he held for six years.  In 1983, he was appointed executive vice president of the New Hampshire Association of REALTORS®, which he managed for five years, until returning to the Massachusetts Association of REALTORS® to serve as its executive vice president from July 1988 to October 1993. From late 1993 to early 2005 Authier served as the chief executive officer of the 32,000-member  Virginia Association of REALTORS® (VAR). He was named Executive of the Year by Southeastern Association Executive magazine in 1999.
