Trisha McCarthy of Newton, NH and a broker with Keller Williams Realty in Newburyport, was installed as the 2010 Secretary/Treasurer of the 20,000-member Massachusetts Association of REALTORS® (MAR). The event took place at the National Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield and included the installation of the MAR Board of Directors and Executive Committee. This is McCarthy’s second consecutive term as secretary/treasurer and it begins on January 1, 2010.
As secretary, McCarthy will determine quorums and be responsible for the preparation and presentation of the minutes and roll call at all meetings of the Association’s Executive Committee and Board of Directors. Furthermore, she is in ------charge of the corporate seal of the Association and will execute any documents requiring the signature of the secretary by law.
As treasurer, McCarthy is responsible for determining the Association's financial needs, investing the Association's reserved funds, and preparing monthly income and expense statements and an annual operating budget for association activities. In addition, she will serve as chairman of the state Association's Finance Committee. McCarthy automatically becomes a member of the MAR Executive Committee and Board of Directors as a result of her election.
Prior to being elected secretary/treasurer in 2008, McCarthy was vice president of Legal Affairs/Business Development. She has also been a MAR director since 2003, and served as MAR Professional Development vice president in 2006 and 2007. Additionally, from 2007-2009 she was chair of the Online Education Work Group, and was a member of the Professional Standards and RPAC Committees.
On the local level, McCarthy has been a member of the Greater Newburyport Association of REALTORS® (GNAR) Board of Directors since 1999. She was the 2008 president of the Association, and previously served as president in 2001, vice president in 2000, and secretary in 1999. She was the 2007 chairperson for the GNAR Bylaws Committee, and served on the Education and RPAC Committees in 2007. McCarthy was honored as REALTOR® of the Year by the GNAR in 2001.
A REALTOR® since 1991, McCarthy has successfully earned her Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR) professional real estate designation, Loss Mitigation Certification (LMC) and her At Home With Diversity (AHWD) designation. In addition, McCarthy is an instructor for the REALTOR® Code of Ethics and Professional Standards.
